adaptation of an H. P. Lovecraft novel. H. P. Lovecraft actually cared quite a bit about astronomy, and wrote an astronomy column for a newspaper at one time. He claimed to have been a true science fiction author (as well as a significant fantasy/horror author and poet) for "predicting" the discovery of Pluto, in his fictional Yog-Suggoth, a fungus planet far beyond Neptune.
